Manufacturer: INTAS
Pharmaceutical name: Fluoxetine Hydrochloride
Pack: 10 pills (20 mg)
Flunil is prescribed for managing depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (persistent unwanted thoughts and the compulsive need to repeat certain actions), certain eating disorders, and panic attacks (sudden episodes of intense fear and anxiety related to these attacks). It helps alleviate symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder, which can include mood swings, irritability, bloating, and breast tenderness. Flunil belongs to a medication class known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Its mechanism of action involves enhancing the levels of serotonin, a natural chemical in the brain that contributes to mental stability.
Flunil can be taken either with food or on an empty stomach. Typically, it is administered once daily in the morning or twice daily in the morning and again at noon. Adhere closely to the instructions provided on your prescription label, and consult your doctor or pharmacist if any part is unclear. It is important to take Flunil precisely as prescribed; do not adjust the dosage or frequency without your doctor's guidance.
Your physician may start you on a lower dose of Flunil, gradually increasing it over time. It could take 4 to 5 weeks or longer for you to fully experience the benefits of Flunil. Persist with the medication even if you begin to feel better. Avoid discontinuing Flunil without first consulting your doctor, as stopping suddenly could lead to withdrawal symptoms, such as mood fluctuations, irritability, restlessness, dizziness, numbness or tingling in extremities, anxiety, confusion, headaches, fatigue, and trouble sleeping. Your physician will likely reduce your dosage gradually.
Potential side effects may include nervousness, nausea, dry mouth, a sore throat, drowsiness, weakness, uncontrollable trembling in any part of the body, reduced appetite, weight loss, alterations in sex drive or performance, and excessive sweating.
Consult your doctor before taking any medications for pain, arthritis, fever, or swelling, which includes aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac, indomethacin, piroxicam, nabumetone, etodolac, and others. Combining any of these medications with Flunil may increase the risk of easy bruising or bleeding.
If an overdose is suspected, urgently contact your local poison control center or emergency department.
